Warmth, Lights, and Togetherness: Our New Holiday Tradition

The holiday season is filled with traditions that bring families and friends together to celebrate and create lasting memories. This year, my family and I are starting a new tradition—one that’s not only fun but also inclusive and accessible to everyone: drive-thru holiday light displays.

For years, my family has enjoyed driving around town to look at holiday lights. We love visiting our local coffee shop to grab a warm drink and then drive around our neighborhood in search of the best holiday decorations. Last year, we realized we could make the experience even more magical by embracing the new wave of drive-thru light shows. These events are popping up in many cities, offering families a unique and safe way to enjoy festive displays without leaving the comfort of their vehicles.

There’s something special about being all together in the car, cozy and warm with hot chocolate or a sweet treat, while the holiday lights twinkle and flash in all their glory. What makes this tradition even more meaningful is that it’s a shared experience—one that everyone can participate in, no matter their age or mobility. These drive-thru holiday events allow us to gather as a family while being mindful of mobility or weather concerns.

One of the best parts of our new tradition is that we can bring our dog along for the ride. Our dog loves car rides, and this is the perfect way to include her in the holiday fun. The best part is, she can enjoy the lights right along with us, and we don’t have to worry about leaving her home. For families with pets, or anyone who might struggle with traditional walking tours of light displays, drive-thru events offer a great alternative.

What we truly appreciate about these drive-thru light shows is how accessible they are, especially for those with mobility concerns. No one has to worry about navigating uneven paths, dealing with large crowds, or rushing through displays in chilly or rainy weather. Weather can also be a huge factor when it comes to planning holiday activities. Drive-thru light events eliminate the unpredictability of winter weather and allow families to enjoy the festivities no matter what the forecast looks like—as long as the event doesn’t get canceled, of course. Whether it’s snowing, raining, or chilly, you’re protected from the elements while still experiencing the magic of the season.

As the holiday season approaches, we’re excited to continue our drive-thru holiday light tradition. It’s a perfect way to enjoy the lights, the music, and the holiday spirit without the usual stress of holiday crowds or cold weather. Whether you’re looking for a new way to enjoy the season or simply want an alternative to traditional holiday activities, I highly recommend exploring a local drive-thru light show this year. It’s an experience that will leave you filled with warmth, joy, and plenty of holiday cheer.
