Be Kind to Yourself

Is it just me, or does it seem like today’s society isn’t very forgiving or flexible with people? With its rushed, hastened pace and constant expectations on the daily, we live in a climate that thrives on accomplishments and results. It’s great to be productive and accountable to get things done at work and at home. But sometimes enough is enough. We’re only one being in this vast universe and there are times we can’t get everything accomplished in a day’s time. So not only do we have to manage the world’s expectations of us but our own as well.

Maybe you’re not feeling well and have health issues that are impacting your usual routine. Or you are caring for a relative or friend who is ill. Things happen. Life happens. Often its unexpected a lot of the time. We must learn how to forgive ourselves and others who aren’t able to be at the top of their game 24/7. Accommodations can be made. Schedules can be changed. Routines can be modified. Because things may look differently compared to how they’ve gotten done before doesn’t mean they still can’t or aren’t getting done.

We should be kinder to ourselves and to each other when it comes to expectations. You never know another person’s situation and what they’re going through. Listen to what they’re saying or not saying. Try to embrace others and yourself with less judgment and more acceptance. Show yourself some love by being kind to your mind and body. Where appropriate, be open to using humor and humility through difficult times. Tell yourself that you are doing your best and that is good enough.
