MSAA features the work of many talented artists affected by multiple sclerosis as part of our annual MSAA Art Showcase. Each month we share these artists’ inspiring stories and beautiful artwork with you as our Artist of the Month. This month, we celebrate Barbara Dixon as November’s Artist of the Month. About the Artist – Barbara Dixon
“Barbara Dixon is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a degree from the School of Art and Design. She has been painting oil portraitures for over 40 years and her work has been featured in many juried art competitions, including being awarded best of show. She studied under the famous painter Robert Fabe and continued for many years in the corporate environment. After a diagnosis of MS in the year 2000, Barbara decided to give up commercial art and focus on refining her skills with the guidance of Deborah Tidwell. She also enjoys creating chalkboards with chalk markers, chalk paints, and oil pastels. She continues treatment at the MS Center of Atlanta under the care of Dr. William Stuart who has been with her since her diagnosis so many years ago. Her husband, James, has been creating artisan soaps for many years and has joined Barbara on a new venture to create works of organic beauty to bathe with. They reside in Woodstock, GA with their two pups, a grand kitty, and a conure named Stuart.”
