About the Artist Karen Bloom

MSAA features the work of many talented artists affected by multiple sclerosis. Each month we share these artist’s inspiring stories and beautiful artwork with you. This month we celebrate Karen Bloom as October 2022 Artist of the Month! Karen is from Kendallville, Indiana.

“I was diagnosed at 48 and a paraplegic within a year. My life is full of joy and adventure, I just no longer walk! After leaving a three-decade career in newspapers, I paint for enjoyment, and distraction. It became more important during Covid isolation as my volunteer opportunities vanished. Multiple sclerosis gave me the gift of time to paint, help daily with grandson and spend time with God.”

I was diagnosed with MS 20 years ago and was blessed to have a wonderful support system. Now that I am retired from teaching, I would like to give back and volunteer to speak with women who are struggling with this condition and may not have a support system. I would appreciate any help you can give me in pursuing my goal. Thank you in advance.
