MSAA features the work of many talented artists affected by multiple sclerosis as part of our annual MSAA Art Showcase. Each month we share these artists’ inspiring stories and beautiful artwork with you as our Artist of the Month. This month, we celebrate Kristan Simmons as December’s Artist of the Month. Kristan is from Johnson City, TN.

About the Artist – Kristan Simmons
“My name is Kristan Simmons, and I was diagnosed with MS in 2010. As the disease has progressed, I have become unable to work so I taught myself to paint. I also have Bi-polar disorder and painting is my source of escape from my reality. Being medically restricted from driving, all I have is my art. I am mostly a folk realism artist, but I love to try different types like abstract, impressionistic, and cubism. I teach art to children in schools as an in-school field trip. I teach all ages how to paint step by step, and love to see how everyone can create art and feel good about themselves.”
