A Worthy Celebration

By Angel Blair

You are good. You are worthy. You are more than enough. You are you and that is perfect. These are affirmations that everyone deserves to believe and live by. But I myself have always had a difficult time believing in my value as a person and trusting that I am enough and deserving of all that is good in this life. Why is it sometimes easier to judge and ridicule ourselves, rather than celebrate who we are and what we’ve accomplished? Because we’re too hard on ourselves and act as our own worst critics. Because we think we need to be perfect. Nonsense. What we need to do is recognize the wins; the big, the small, and the in-between that’s made us who we are. We need to celebrate us.

It’s not surprising that people don’t feel comfortable celebrating themselves. We feel self-conscious, humble, modest, or embarrassed. But shame doesn’t have to accompany feelings of worth. And I’ve realized that celebrating myself doesn’t have to look a certain way or check off specific boxes of fulfillment. It can be soft and silent; in moments watching my daughters grow; when I write about something with confidence and pride; or when I let myself just be present and enjoy what’s happening right now versus worrying about the next thing.

Time is fleeting and life is too precious to not celebrate moments that deserve to be.  Let the recognition in and take the time to celebrate yourself and what you’ve done. You can do so quietly if you’d like.
