This easy and festive recipe for classic Holiday Rice Krispie Treats is a crowd pleaser. You can add fun toppings such as red and green M&Ms and holiday sprinkles or any additional toppings you might like.
Ingredients
- 3 Tbsp unsalted butter (plus extra for greasing the pan)
- 1 (10-ounce) bag mini marshmallows (about 6 cups)
- 6 cups crispy rice cereal
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup red and green M&Ms (divided)
- 2 Tbsp red and green holiday sprinkles (divided)
Instructions
- Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal, and lightly grease it with cooking spray or butter.
- Melt butter and marshmallows in a large saucepan over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until they are completely melted and smooth. Remove the pot from the heat.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Immediately add the 6 cups of cereal. Stir gently until the cereal is evenly coated.
- Pour the mixture into prepared pan. Use a buttered or greased spatula/piece of wax paper to gently and evenly press the mixture into the dish. Do not press too firmly, or the treats will be tough.
- While the mixture is still warm and sticky, immediately press the M&Ms and sprinkles onto the top of the treats.
- Let the treats cool and set completely at room temperature for about 1 hour. Lift the bars out of the pan using the parchment overhang, then cut them into squares with a knife.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season of merriment and joy.
