Holiday Rice Krispie Treats

This easy and festive recipe for classic Holiday Rice Krispie Treats is a crowd pleaser. You can add fun toppings such as red and green M&Ms and holiday sprinkles or any additional toppings you might like.

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter (plus extra for greasing the pan)
  • 1 (10-ounce) bag mini marshmallows (about 6 cups)
  • 6 cups crispy rice cereal
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup red and green M&Ms (divided)
  • 2 Tbsp red and green holiday sprinkles (divided)

Instructions

  1. Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal, and lightly grease it with cooking spray or butter.
  2. Melt butter and marshmallows in a large saucepan over low heat. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until they are completely melted and smooth. Remove the pot from the heat.
  3. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Immediately add the 6 cups of cereal. Stir gently until the cereal is evenly coated.
  4. Pour the mixture into prepared pan. Use a buttered or greased spatula/piece of wax paper to gently and evenly press the mixture into the dish. Do not press too firmly, or the treats will be tough.
  5. While the mixture is still warm and sticky, immediately press the M&Ms and sprinkles onto the top of the treats.
  6. Let the treats cool and set completely at room temperature for about 1 hour. Lift the bars out of the pan using the parchment overhang, then cut them into squares with a knife.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season of merriment and joy.
