Time flies. You can say that again, and again, and again. It’s hard to believe that the end of 2025 is upon us and a new year is right around the corner. The year brought many changes, as the years usually do in one way or another, and either for better or worse. With it also came the same reliable sentiment that life is unpredictable, and to expect the unexpected. How time is precious and fleeting, and to take advantage of life’s special moments as much as possible.
Watching my children grow has shown me firsthand how precious time can really be. You often hear people say how fast time goes by when raising kids, and when you find yourself in it this is so true. Each milestone or new development accomplished makes you pause and think how special time really is. It teaches you to stay present in the moment (as hard as that can be), because before you know it that moment is gone and you risk losing the wonder of it. The saying I’ve heard is that the days are long, but the years are short when raising kids. A lesson that continues to ring true.
Now on the other hand, sometimes time feels like it stands still-usually when you don’t want it to. Difficult or challenging moments seem to linger. Why is this? Happy moments flee but the hard ones hang around. Those experiencing health issues, loss, financial strain, or some other troubling facet of life want time to move quickly when it doesn’t. It feels like it’s not moving at all. The theory ‘it’s all relative’-yes, indeed.
While life can bring such unpredictability and challenge at times, that’s what makes it all the more important to take advantage of the good times and to treasure them when you can. Because it’s these types of moments that are fleeting and go by in the blink of an eye.
