Surviving Summer

This summer has been incredibly hot across the nation. Possibly due to global warming. Heat waves have been unusually common this year. Staying active in summer can be a challenging task but there are ways you can beat the heat. With some of the tips below, these tips may ensure you are able to continue with your daily routines and exercise regimes.

Simple tips to consider:

  • Timing: If heavy exercise is not your thing, walking or cycling during the early hours of the morning or late hours in the evening can be beneficial.
  • Clothing: Opt for light-colored, loose-fitting cotton wear during hot summer months as they absorb less heat compared to darker shades and minimize the effect of heat on the body.
  • Indoor activities: If the heat outside is unbearable, opt for activities like board games, puzzles, reading, Pilates, Zumba, indoor racket sports. It will help to burn calories and engage your mind.
  • Stay hydrated: Hydration is the key. Whether it is fruit infused water, herbal teas or coffee that you like, hydrate yourself regularly. Increase your consumption of fruits and vegetables with higher water content.
  • Cooling vests: Using cooling vests for your indoor or outdoor activities can be an absolute game changer.
  • Cool your body:  Splash pads, indoor water parks, or swimming pools are all great options to bring your body temperature down.

Do not forget to apply sunscreen when you are going to step outside and use sunglasses when you can. If you want to treat yourself after a long day of hard work, enjoy a cool summer treat of your choice. Do not let the relentless heat dampen your spirits.

Stay cool and have a splendid summer.
